From stretching when you get out of bed to your afternoon jog, your skin moves with you throughout your day. Your skin is also a major player in purging your body’s waste and toxins through your pores.

Since your skin works overtime for you, it’s important to show it love with an effective moisturizing routine. But many traditional lotions and moisturizers at the store are far from helpful for your skin.

Many store-bought moisturizers contain synthetic ingredients and chemicals that may irritate your skin or even make it feel dryer than before.

Making your own DIY moisturizer at home can ensure you’re using quality, natural ingredients that will rejuvenate your skin without the harmful effect of foreign chemicals.

These simple 3-ingrediant DIY moisturizers you can make at home will keep your skin naturally smooth and glowing all year long.

Body Moisturizer

This potent body moisturizer is both incredibly easy to make and budget-friendly. With a simple blend of coconut oil, shea butter and olive oil, your skin will love the smooth, hydrating effect of this recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup shea butter
  • 2 tablespoons organic extra-virgin coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons organic extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 cups of water

Optional: 20 drops of your favorite essential oil

Instructions:

  • Add the ingredients to a large glass bowl.
  • Bring 2 cups of water to a simmer in a sauce pan.
  • Once water is simmering, carefully place the glass bowl into the sauce pan to melt the ingredients inside the bowl. Make sure no water mixes with the ingredients in the bowl.
  • Allow the shea butter and oils to melt inside the bowl while stirring occasionally.
  • Once the ingredients in the glass bowl are melted and combined, carefully remove the bowl from the water and pour the mixture into a glass jar or other container. Allow the mixture to cool.
  • Once the mixture has cooled, place the container in the refrigerator until it solidifies. Remove the container and store your moisturizer at room temperature.

Facial Moisturizer

The skin on your face may be more delicate and sensitive than the skin on the rest of your body. This 3-ingrediant DIY facial moisturizer allows you to choose a base oil that best suits your face’s needs, and pair it with a nourishing oil to further rejuvenate your skin.

Pro-tip: Be sure to wash your face with a gentle cleanser before applying your DIY moisturizer — mixing nourishing oils with old oils and dirt that’s already on your skin can be irritating and make your moisturizer less effective.

Ingredients:

Choose a nourishing oil:

Choose your favorite essential oil (rose, lavender, sandalwood, peppermint, chamomile, whatever you like!)

Instructions:

  • Using a 1-oz bottle, fill the bottle just under 2/3 of the way full with your base oil.
  • Add your nourishing oil until the bottle is almost full.
  • Add 4-6 drops of your chosen essential oil. Cap the bottle and shake well after you add each drop to gauge how much essential oil you’ll need, without being overpowering.

Dry Skin Brushing

To reap the full benefits of your DIY moisturizers, use a dry-skin brush every day before applying your moisturizer. Dry skin brushing is key to exfoliating dead skin cells, which allows your soft, new skin to glow.

By clearing out dead skin cells, dry skin brushing also allows your pores to better absorb the nutrients from your DIY moisturizers.

Not only that, but dry skin brushing can help fight off ingrown hairs and boost your lymphatic system and circulation, which could even help reduce the appearance of cellulite.

With the onset of fall and winter just around the corner, your skin may change as the weather does. Dryer, cooler days may call for more reinforcement to keep your skin hydrated and healthy. Here are 5 winter skin care tips that can save your skin >
