Reveille Cardboard Boat Race

There were so many amazing moments shared this year at Camp Reveille, my women's wellness camp in Naples, Maine this past August. We had high-energy workouts, a competitive cardboard boat race, informative breakout sessions, and of course we had a community of friendship and bonding which is what creates the magic of Reveille. There is so much to share so I've put together some highlights for all of us to look back on.

For the first time at camp we included a stellar panel session entitled Age Excellently with Beth Bielat, our Camp Reveille fitness director, Dr. David Coppola, a holistic doctor, Dr. Cheryl Woodson, an internist and geriatrician, and Dr. Robert Zembroski my nutritionist who has been helping me stay healthy during my chemotherapy. Beth let us know that only 20-25% of shedding pounds is about working out and 70-80% is about what you put in your mouth. Dr. Coppola explained the role our emotions play in our well being and how to identify the ways emotions are connected to our health. Dr. Woodson warned us of the dangers of being overweight and how we should be less concerned about dropping weight so we can squeeze into our favorite jeans and more concerned about dropping weight to prevent diabetes and brain, heart, kidney and nerve complications. We learned from Dr. Z that we have control of our own health and we are not destined to chronic illness based on genetics. Everyone walked away from this panel with a list of healthy changes they could make in thier lives to live long and live happy.

An event I get excited for every year is our Saturday night Reveille Dance Party. It’s a time when campers can be carefree, have fun, groove and let-loose before re-entering the “real world” the next morning. This year Dr. Z took center stage as John Travolta and showed off his Saturday Night Fever moves on the dance floor and I had a blast dancing to the electric slide. The night is always filled with liveliness, energy and tons of laughter.

We had campers play like kids again in our Wacked Out Relay Race and some brave ladies climbed our 50-foot climbing wall and flew through the air on our new drop swing! For campers who wanted some relaxation they tried our yoga classes, jewelry making, and spa services. We also had some gorgeous ladies walking around camp who had my make-up artist Emir Pehilj give them mini makeovers. And ending each night, we had to have S'mores around a campfire, and what's special about our campfires is they are set on Long Lake's beach with the glowing sunset in the background. Each year Camp Reveille reaches new heights and I can't wait to see what next summer brings!
